What Does Your T-Shirt Say About You

If you've ever read a Sherlock Holmes story, or seen one of his many film and television incarnations, then you will likely be familiar with the idea of the 'science of deduction'. Here Sherlock uses his considerable deductive capabilities in order to ascertain huge amounts of information about a person or people just by looking at them. He uses many cues to this end – their clothing, debris on their skin and hair, their posture, their stance, their musculature, their movements etc. He might for instance deduce that someone with slender fingers who moved them often and deftly was a pianist, or that someone with grubby nails, a muscular frame and a dirty t shirt worked on a building site and had just come from there.

While Sherlock is of course a work of fiction, an element of deduction is certainly possible and is in fact something that we do all the time unconsciously. When you look at someone, your brain will automatically hone in on many small details that provide you with information regarding that person – and it will have gathered this data from previous experiences with similar people and intuition. We are all budding psychologists whether we know it or not and we pick up a lot from what we see others wearing.

By the same token then, what you wear says a lot about you, and you need to be careful of the image you are projecting. This is especially true when it comes to t shirts which tend to be more colorful than other items of clothing and contain pictures and messages. What might your t shirts say about you?

Band T Shirts: Of course band t shirts will tell people that you like that band – a Linkin Park t shirt for instance says first and foremost that you like Linkin Park. At the same time though that you would wear this as a t shirt suggests that you are into music in a big way and further clues might suggest you yourself were a musician. The style of music also suggests something about you – for instance there is often a certain demographic associated with rock music. Gaming T Shirts: This again says that you like gaming and it says which games you enjoy to play. Further though it also acts as an indicator that you perhaps like technology in general and other cues might help to suggest if you have a career in that field. It may also suggest that you prefer solitary activities and being indoors and might suggest the other activities you enjoy.

Offensive T Shirts: It is a certain type of person who likes to offend and who challenges social norms and boundaries and this is the person who wears the offensive t shirt. It also suggests someone who is not concerned by what people think, and who has no big authority in their life who might reprimand them for wearing such a t shirt.
